The Simplicity of Light and Shadows
Black and white photography in autumn
They say the best camera is the one you have with you. I love my photography and the truth of the matter is I rarely have my “official”cameras with me. Having recently invested in the iPhone 15 Pro I now have a powerful tool with me almost everywhere I go.
I love to go on a photo walkabout explicitly for the purpose of shooting. Sometimes when my wife and I are out and about, especially in a new place or somewhere we do not visit regularly, I love to look around and see what catches my eye.
Autumn is the chef’s kiss of warm light in my opinion and the sharp angles make even the mundane interesting. Shadows abound and everyday items become beautiful or mysterious.
We were away for an overnight to visit a colleague and while I didn’t take many photos, the ones I did put a smile on my face. There is something about black and white that simplifies and amplifies at the same time.
Walking past this church and very old cemetery (headstones dating back into the 1700’s), I felt a very Emily Dickinson vibe and the stirring of ancestors upon whose shoulders we walk.
We stayed in a historic arts hotel which was very cool. The old brick and beams and vibe was wonderful. I caught the late day shadows from our window. I felt like I was in a movie gazing out at something important.
Earlier that day we pedaled a historic rail trail on our bikes. The reflections were mesmerizing.
I try to remind myself that magic and beauty is all around. I just need to remember my practice of looking for it.
Hope you enjoyed the photos and my take on them.

And thank you for another journey.
Wonderful photos Paula! And yes, autumn light is really chef's kiss. Once again, my answer is running...of course.... to direct my attention to the here and now.
